Gianna Fratta - CONDUCTOR

She decided to dedicate her life to conducting at the age of nine, after hearing a live orchestra for the first time while studying piano at the Milan Conservatory. She went on to graduate at a very young age in piano, composition, orchestral conducting, choral music, and choral conducting. In parallel, she earned degrees in Law and Musical Disciplines.

Throughout her career, she has performed and conducted in the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Seoul Arts Center, the Hong Kong Opera, Smetana Hall in Prague, and the Teatro Municipal in São Paulo. International orchestras she has collaborated with include the Berliner Symphoniker, the Prime Orchestra of Seoul, the Balearic Philharmonic, the Vilnius Philharmonic, the Kyiv Philharmonic, the Macao Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France, the Hong Kong Opera House Orchestra, and the Royal Academy in London, among many others.

Her conducting career in Italy includes collaborations with major orchestras such as the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Fondazione Arena di Verona Orchestra, the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic in Parma, the Orchestra Regionale Toscana, the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra, the Milan Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, and I Pomeriggi Musicali. She has performed alongside renowned artists such as Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Sergej Krylov, Avi Avital, Raina Kabaivanska, David Garrett, and others.

During the 2024 season, she was the only conductor in Italy to inaugurate two opera houses: the Fondazione Arena di Verona with The Magic Flute and the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste with Manon Lescaut. Among her critically acclaimed productions in recent years are La Fanciulla del West directed by Renzo Giacchieri, Puccini's Il Trittico (which won the award for Best Opera Production of 2015 in South Korea), Madama Butterfly directed by Daniele Abbado, and Nabucco directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi.

Gianna Fratta holds the Chair of Composition at the Foggia Conservatory and regularly conducts courses and masterclasses at numerous universities worldwide. She has released recordings and DVDs with Sony, Brilliant Classics, Arcana, Amadeus, Classica HD, Velut Luna, and Bongiovanni. She is a Knight of the Italian Republic (Cavaliere), an honor awarded for her international artistic merits as both a pianist and conductor, and she has been the subject of several documentaries detailing her life and career.
