Werner Pfaff (Germany)

Werner Pfaff studied piano, composition, conducting and vocal music, also in musicology and philosophy.

His most important teacher: Hans Michael Beuerle (choir conducting).

Other important artistic experiences under the direction of such conductors as: Solti, Sinopoli, Chailly, Bertini, Harnoncourt, Gielen, Marriner, Rostropowitsch, Penderecki, Ericson.

Since 1980 conductor of the mixed chamber choir STUDIO VOCALE KARLSRUHE, which won several first prizes at international choir competitions (Tolosa, Marktoberdorf, Torrevieja) and has been invited to many important choir festivals all over the world.

From 1989-96 lecturer in conducting at the Music Academy Frankfurt/Main, from 1992-95 lecturer in conducting at Music Academy "Franz Liszt" Weimar.

Since 1996 working worldwide  - but specially frequent in Latin America - as freelance: as guest conductor of professional orchestras (e.g. Sinfonia Varsovia), also orchestras with historical instruments,   and professional choirs (many radio choirs) and semi professional choirs,  conducting classes (master classes etc.), workshops, Jury member (e.g. Tolosa, Tours, Xiamen (Olympic Choir Games 2006).

Since 1991 together with Jan Szyrocki one of the constant conductors of the "German Polish Choir Academy 'in terra pax' ".

Since 2005 artistic director of the “International Choir Festival” of Lima/Peru.

Some highlights of the last years: Conducting at the Festival “Millenium Pace” 2005 in Valencia in the “Palau de la Musica” with the polish orchestra Sinfonia Varsovia (Chopin piano concert Nr.1 and Mozart Requiem) or in Havana in 2007 in the “Teatro Amadeo Roldán” with the National Symphony Orchestra and 7 professional Cuban choirs (Brahms – a German Requiem), recorded by the national Cuban TV.
