Josep Prats (Spain)

Born in Sant Feliu de Llobregat in 1953, he studied at the conservatoire in Barcellona and Badalona and conducted with Antoni Ros Marbà.

He has participated in courses for Choral conductors under Jordi Casas, Erwin List, Laszlo Heltay, Pierre Cao and Michel Corboz.

He has been technical director for the “Federació Catalana d'Entitats Corals”, member of the permanent Musical Committee for the European Federation Europa Cantat, as well as teaching choral singing and chamber music at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and the "Institut del Teatre" (Barcellona).

He was associate conductor of the Spanish radio and television choir (Madrid, 1998-2000) and has occasionally conducted the "Capella de Música de Santa Maria del Mar" (Barcellona), the Escolanía choir from Montserrat, the Estonian Male Voice Choir, the National Polyphonic Choir from Uruguay and has been musical director of the  "Cantània" programme for primary school children, which takes place in the National Auditorium of Catalonia.  

For many years he was conductor of the "Cor Ciutat de Tarragona" (Tarragona) and currently conducts the "Coral Cantiga" (Barcellona).

Josep Prats has been involved in numerous national and international choral festivals (France, Belgium, Holland, England, Argentina, Chile, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Israel and Estonia, and in many of the Europa Cantat festivals (Linz, Nevers and Barcellona ) and IFCM (Pto. Madryn).

He has also been a member of the jury in international choir competitions (Toulouse, Trelew, Amiens, Riva del Garda, Des Moines – Iowa,  Maasmechelen - Belgio-) and teaches choral conducting courses all over the world, including Spain, France, Holland, Portugal, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.
